In this whole time that Borat has been under fire for his offensive comments and his verbally damaging comments, not once has his portrayer Sacha Baron Cohen come out to say that Borat is only a character in a movie and he is supposed to be offensive.
Instead people are talking about Borat like he is an actually person. A perfect example of this sort of thing was, remember when Eminem first came out and he has the stage persona of Eminem and he was controversial and offensive to some but he explained many times that Eminem is a stage presence and he is just a man, Marshall Mathers. People were able to establish that he is two different personas so people understood him better.
But Sacha Cohen has not come out in defense of his actions as a comedian letting people know he is not as rude or as controversial as his character and he is not an anti Semite. We have heard nothing from the man just the character. People are suing the character like they believe he is the character but he is a person playing the character.
Maybe Mr. Cohen does not want to establish that there is a difference between himself and Borat. Maybe people would understand him better and differentiate between the character and the man.
