This past month saw the release of the Borat movie. Though Borat is a highly popular character, this movie made a great deal of money but the question is was the movie funny or just plain offensive. Half of America gives you the offensive answer and the other half is saying funny. You get a certain demographic of people who will say it is funny. Mostly teenagers and young adults will say funny and older America will say offensive.
Who is right? The premise of the movie is that Borat travels from his homeland in Kazakhstan to travel to America to film a documentary and along the way he meets some strange people. Even the people who write the reviews say it is hilarious but yet it is offensive. How could something be both?
Even the people of Kazakhstan are offended by his actions, but there are many people find him to be very funny. Humor can’t really be explained or justified. Borat is a choice, either you love him or hate him or if you hate him turn him off. It’s really that simple. He says thing to get reactions and if you react to him then how foolish are you.
But just like people found Andrew Dice Clay funny yet offensive in the early 90’s now you might say who is that? Or oh yeah whatever happened to that guy? The same thing will happen with Borat. He does not have much staying power.
