Borat is played by a man named Sacha Baron Cohen, he was born in England on October 13, 1971. He is well known for his offensive and mostly controversial work in comedy. Besides Borat, Sacha’s most famous character is Ali G he is wannabe gangsta from of all places England.
He also has a character that is very gay fashion reporter from Austria named Bruno. Cohen incorporates all of these characters into a comedy show called Da Ali G. His shows are not considered reality but unscripted work.
Even though his work is considered offensive he has been acknowledged with a BAFTA award and earned an Emmy nomination. Cohen’s other credits include Madonna’s video for the song Music, he appeared on the season ender of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, he had a voice over in the movie, Madagascar and in the recent movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Cohen has portrayed many of his characters when asked to be apart of award shows. In 2001 at the MTV Europe Music Awards he appeared as Ali G, and then in 2005 as Borat. The kicker came in 2006 when Borat introduced the group Gnarls Barley’s Crazy; audience booed him because he made anti-Semitic comments. They were not included in the repeats.
